They probably wouldn’t be able to get the money/passport back (Russian cab? Doesn’t seem like a safe bet for a safe return), so they’d have to go through the embassy and that would likely take longer than it would take the racers to get to Portland.

I’m presuming they made it back eventually, so hopefully a post-race interview can shed some light on their ordeal.
