PaleyFest 09: Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog
April 14th, 2009
[I got the chance to report on last night’s Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog panel for the good folks at HitFix while I’m here in California, so below is a bit of a teaser, a link to the story, and after the jump some photos from the event. Enjoy!]
There are a lot of firsts surrounding Tuesday’s (April 14) panel discussion of “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog,” the fourth event at PaleyFest 09: it’s the first time the festival has ever featured an internet series, the first time that Nathan Fillion has ever been part of the festival and the first time that Joss Whedon has been asked about his relationship with FOX (Okay, so the last one is a lie, that happens every single time he speaks).
Regardless, there’s a lot riding on “Dr. Horrible” as a model for future internet success, but what was most interesting about the discussion moderated by Matt Roush was that it wasn’t Whedon who really spoke passionately about this model.
Read the rest of my report at HitFix, or continue reading for some more photos from the event!
Joss Whedon, or perhaps a hobo impersonating Joss Whedon (kidding!), takes to the stage to introduce the screening.
Dr. Horrible conquers the big screen at the ArcLight Cinerama Dome in Hollywood.
Moderator Matt Roush from TV Guide Magazine starts off the panel discussion.
Whedon and Nathan Fillion (“Captain Hammer”) prepare for the question that follows – or, if you’re Fillion, you zone out entirely and humorously assert yourself into the discussion.
The other part of the panel: Felicia Day (“Penny”), Zack Whedon (Writer/Producer), Jed Whedon (Composer/Orchestrator) and Maurissa Tancharoen (Writer).
As was common during periods where Fillion took to the microphone, everyone turns towards him: this may have been when he was detailing his college job working as a karaoke host.
The whole gang.
When asked the question of whether anyone knew that Fillion had such a melodic voice, Fillion immediately raised his hand as he went for a drink of water – laughter commenced.
I completely forget the context for this photograph, but I’m in love with it.
Another shot of almost all of the panel (sorry, Melissa!)
Kath from GiveMeMyRemote.com (Twitter @GMMR) asks the evening’s first question.
The panel is extremely focused on the question at hand, although Nathan is obviously seething inside as it relates to the absent Neil Patrick Harris, his sworn enemy.
A shot of the scale of the Cinerama Dome – they seem so tiny from up in the balcony.
FYI – It’s Maurissa, not Melissa.
Thanks! I copy/pasted that from somewhere to make sure I got the last name right, and lo and behold the first name was wrong! Epic fail.
Not a problem. Pleased my nerditude could be of use. 🙂
Awesome. Thanks for the coverage.
